BUNGOMA, Kenya — November 8, 2025

Bungoma National Polytechnic has continued to make waves in the national sports scene, showcasing its growing strength across handball, athletics, and women’s football.

Over the weekend, the institution’s women’s handball team put up a spirited performance despite falling 35–26 to Daystar Falcons in a thrilling Kenya Handball Federation league clash. The team displayed great determination in the first half, trailing narrowly at 17–11, before fatigue and travel challenges took their toll in the closing minutes.

Head coach Collins Wekesa praised his players for their resilience and commitment, emphasizing that the team is learning fast and targeting qualification for the national round of 12 this season.

“We have a young and ambitious squad. The defeat is a lesson, not a setback. We are building a strong foundation for future success,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bungoma Queens — the Polytechnic’s women’s football side — have continued their campaign in the FKF Women’s Premier League. Despite a 0–3 loss to former champions Vihiga Queens, the team remains confident ahead of their upcoming fixture against Kayole Starlets. The Queens are also preparing for their FKF Cup Round of 16 match against Gideon Starlets, set to be played at the Polytechnic grounds later this month.

Away from the pitch, the institution’s athletics team has earned recognition as one of the strongest in the Western region, with several runners posting impressive results in regional track and field events. The Polytechnic administration has reiterated its commitment to nurturing sports talent alongside academic excellence.

“We believe in a holistic approach to education — where talent, discipline, and hard work go hand in hand,” said the institution’s sports coordinator.

As the 2025/2026 sports calendar gathers momentum, Bungoma National Polytechnic stands out as a powerhouse of emerging talent, determination, and sportsmanship in Kenya’s technical and vocational education sector.
