William Ruto Slams Hustler Fund Defaulters: “Hasara Ni Yako”
President William Samoei Ruto has issued a stern warning to Kenyans who have defaulted on repaying their Hustler Fund loans, emphasizing that the loss incurred is entirely their own.
Speaking during a public address, President Ruto criticized those who took advantage of the government’s affordable credit program but failed to honor their repayment obligations.
Some people took KSh 500 and vanished. You bear the loss. You ought to get your act together. You would be receiving KSh 50,000 by now, but you are still struggling with the KSh 500 since you took the KSh 500 and defaulted. Please use common sense.”
The Head of State reiterated that the Hustler Fund was established to empower millions of low-income earners and small business owners through accessible microloans, encouraging a culture of financial responsibility and entrepreneurship.
Ruto further noted that consistent repayment unlocks access to higher loan limits and better financial opportunities. He urged Kenyans to repay their loans promptly to sustain the revolving fund for future beneficiaries.
The Hustler Fund, launched in November 2022, has disbursed billions to millions of Kenyans through mobile platforms. However, recent reports indicate a rise in defaults, prompting renewed calls for accountability and repayment discipline.
